Judges announced for MasterChef SA

M-Net has announced that the judges for the South African version of the popular MasterChef series will be Andrew Atkinson, Benny Masekwameng and Pete Goffe-Wood. MasterChef South Africa is due to start on M-Net in March.

According to Channel24, Goffe-Wood is a restaurateur, chef and menu consultant with experience in judging for The S.Pellegrino Top 50 Restaurants in the World competition and the Eat Out Restaurant of the Year Awards; Masekwameng is executive chef at MondoVino at Montecasino; and Atkinson is director of the South African Chefs Association and executive chef of Piccolo Mondo in the Michelangelo Hotel.

The first round of auditions for the reality cooking show ended in December, and according to the M-Net website the producers of the show are currently short-listing the best contestants who will gather in January for the next round of auditions, where they will have to cook a hot dish for the judges.

The winner of MasterChef South Africa will win a prize valued at R8m, which includes R250,000 in cash from the show’s headline sponsor, Robertsons; a Hyundai Elantra 1.6 GLS; and an all-expenses paid seven day culinary experience in Italy courtesy of official food sponsor, Woolworths.

The series is scheduled to start on M-Net and M-Net HD on Tuesday 20 March 2012 at 7:30pm.
