MCCAIN TRIBUTE TO GOOD TASTE
This creative competition in partnership with the South African Chefs Association is aimed at young Chefs, whom must create innovative menus using as many McCain Products as possible. Last year the McCain Tribute to Good Taste was opened up wide, with the only stipulation being that each of the three courses from each contestant needed to have McCain Alternatives Sweet Potatoes as an ingredient. Craig Jordaan from Destiny Cuisine came 1st, winning R7 500 and the floating trophy, and he was up against Zama Ngwane (2011 Goldcrest Young Chef if the Year), Emmerentia O’Neil and Shereen Clark.
Creativity, originality and imagination is called for in this year’s competition. Dishes need to be appealing to the taste buds with plenty of imagination mixed in. Impressive colour variations and a memorable taste explosion would also go far to impress the judges - along with freshness, nutrition and convenience.
The McCain Tribute to Good Taste is open to all paid-up members of the South African Chefs Association. Four finalists will be selected nationally and will go to Cape Town for the final cook-off at the 2012 Cape Hostex. This year the winning Chef receives a cash prize of R7500 and the McCain Tribute to Good Taste floating trophy. The name of the winner will be announced at Hostex and the winning entry and a profile of the winner will be published in SACA’s magazine and on the website.
The McCain Tribute to Good Taste competition will this year be held at Hostex 2012 which is taking place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre from 15 to 17 May. For more information contact Nicholas Sarnadas at events@saca.co.za
