A highlight on South Africa’s culinary calendar is the Unilever Food Solutions Chef of the Year Competition. It has grown over the years to become one of the foremost competitions in South Africa, with prize money exceeding R15 000 in the Junior category and R20 000 in the Senior category. Originally known as the Marvello Chef of the Year, the Unilever Food Solutions Chef of the Year represents the finest culinary talent in our country and has seen its competitors take up the challenge, win, and use the opportunity to boost their careers.
A handful of South Africa’s finest chefs have walked away with top honours in the Senior, Junior and Team of Four categories. The South African Chefs Association (SACA) accredited judges are tasked with selecting the winners. The 2011 judges were Stephen Billingham (President, South African Chefs Association), Andrew Atkinson (Michelangelo Hotel), Allister Esau (BOSASA) and Henrico Grobbelaar (12 Apostles Hotel).
Entries close: 13 July 2012. The competition starts 31 July in Kwazulu Natal, 1 August in Johannesburg and the 3rd of August in Cape Town.
